What is a challenging dog?
A challenging dog can react to other dogs or people with a hostile display of barking, growling, and lunging. Some react in an opposite way by being extremely timid. Many challenging dogs react more outside when they are on a leash and they see other dogs. Others will have some degree of challenging reaction to people as well. Dogs who are elderly, have health issues, or who simply don’t cope well with multiple dogs in their space, can also be challenging.

It can be frustrating, upsetting, and embarassing to have a challenging dog. Instead of Lassie letting us know that Timmy is in the well, she’s barking and lunging at the next door neighbor’s calm dog. Lassie’s behavior seems like a reflection on you and your inability to handle your dog. It’s not. Despite the challenges, we know you love your dog and we want you – and them – to be happier outside the house and in.
